Organizing Tips For Christ-Centered Curriculum

Initially, as you look through the CCC box(es), you'll probably find yourself wondering: "what do I DO with all this stuff?" Helping you resolve that issue is the purpose of the following instructions. You've probably heard the saying, "Just take it one step at a time!" Applying that principle to both organizing and the initial teaching of the CCC will get you off to the best start possible.

We have set out two suggested systems for organizing your CCC materials, or you can customize your own file system.

Option One:
This system has the entire CCC together in two hanging file boxes that you will refer to daily (one with Teaching Guides, flashcards, charts, etc., and the second with student workbooks and instruction/answer keys). This is a good option if you are teaching the CCC at two or more levels simultaneously (ie. one child in Level A, one in Level B, and perhaps one in Level C).

Option Two:
This system has in one box only what you will use at the level you are currently working with including the applicable Phonics Lesson Guide, Math Lesson Guide, Phonics Drill Reader, reader, student workbook and its instruction/answer key, charts & flashcards. In the second box you will store the balance of the materials in labelled folders until you need them. Thus, you are handling only one file box each day.

Tip:
We personally have a box for mom with currently needed teaching resources including Phonics Guide, Math Guide, Drill Reader, charts, flashcards, and workbook instruction/answer keys. This leaves room for additional teaching aids, other curriculum resources and daily record keeping aids. Each child has their own personalized hanging file box for storing their current phonics workbook, math workbook, supplies and any other curriculum books we are using (ie. readers, science, history, etc. for those using these).

How to Organize the CCC Materials

STEP 1. Purchase the following storage/organizational items:

  1. 2 - Eldon© Spacemaker "Jumbo Box Office" hanging file folder tote file boxes with pencil compartment in the lid (or other similar product, approximately 9in. deep and 12 1/2 wide). Choose two different colours - one for the Teacher's Basic Program materials and a second file box for the Student Programs. Boxes any larger are very heavy when full, much smaller and they do not hold everything.
  2. 21 heavy duty hanging file folders and 21 plastic tabs with paper inserts for labelling each folder.

Option Number 1

STEP 2. As designated below, organize the TEACHER'S PHONICS AND MATH resources into 9 hanging file folders. (Label each folder as shown beside numerals 1-9, ie. #1 label is "Phonics Visual Aids".) Recommendation: print your titles on a computer, cut them out, paste them on the insert that goes into the plastic tab.

#1. Phonics Visual Aids.
Letter/Blend/Word Search. Cut out the figure of the boy and magnifying glass plus the five footprints. If you cut carefully, you can trace a footprint to make more out of the white "trimmings." Insert into the Phonics Visual Aid's folder pocket.
Vowel Lane Spelling Houses (Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, Uu). Cut out the vowel house figures and insert into the folder's pocket.
Alphabet Wall Cards (large manuscript letters at the bottoms of the cards, blank on the back).
Noah's Vowel Song (chart of Noah's ark, cat, hen, pig, dog, and duck).

#2. Phonics Drill Readers.
• File the large Phonics Drill Reader book and its companion "little readers" (Creation: GOD MADE ME, The Fall: GOD LOVES ME, and The Flood. GOD SAVES ME) in the folder.

#3. Phonics Lessons 1-31.
• File phonics flashcards 1-31 (cards with picture and verse/rhyme on the front and printed information on the back from 118 card set) and Phonics Lessons for Flashcards 1-31 book in this folder.

#7. Math Flashcards.
• File the large 1-10 Math Flashcards at the front of the folder. Tape together the 0-10 Animal Number Line; store in a safe place or mount on a wall. On the dotted lines, cut the 1+0, 2+0, 1+1, etc. animal babies flashcards into two cards. Divide the animal babies cards into two equal stacks (1-7 families and 8-10 families); put a rubber band around each stack and place behind the 1-10 Math Flashcards.

#8. Math Lessons Guide A.

#9. Math Lessons Guide B.
